Craig Kauffman

"Craig Kauffman is an American West Coast painter and sculptor, who works mainly with acrylic and plastic. Born in Los Angeles in 1932. Kauffman studied at the University of Southern California School of Architecture from 1950-52, and at the University of California at Los Angeles 1952-6. His first one-man exhibition at the Felix Landau Gallery, Los Angeles, 1953. Craig Kauffman travelled in Europe 1956 for a year, and later spent from 1960-62 in Paris. Where he started to paint Abstract Expressionist pictures with biomorphic imagery, then began in 1963 to make reliefs of vacuum-formed clear plastic in luxuriant colours. Kauffman taught painting and sculpture at the University of California, Irvine, from 1967 to 1972. Craig Kauffman founded in 1970 a Peripatetic Artists Guild with Robert Morris, announcing his availability for a wide range of commissions anywhere in the world. Today Kauffman lives in Laguna Beach, California.
